Heroes Volume 2 Chapter 11 (Powerless)

- Spoiler Alert -

Volume 2 has come to an end. It was a very weak volume but it ended with a bang. If only the rest of the season could have been as good as this climatic chapter.

I did not review chapter 10 because I had 3 days of jury duty last week along with a bunch of other things on my plate. Chapter 10 was a good one and it brought us closer to certain moments which we have been waiting for. This included Hiro finally confronting Kensei and Sylar getting his powers back. It built a lot of hype for the final chapter which looked very promising and it sure was. With so many story lines there was a lot of ground to cover in one hour. This is something which Heroes has failed in this season. However, this was not the case for the chapter that mattered most.

Ill start of by talking about Kensei’s attempt to unleash the virus. This was done beautifully. The story was well told and it was action packed as well. Watching Hiro use his powers in such wise ways was amazing and shows how well he is able to control his abilities. His decision to teleport Adam to Japan and trap him six feet under was probably the smartest thing that was done this season. There is no bigger punishment for an immortal than to be buried alive where it is practically impossible to escape from. This scene left a huge grin on my face.

Our favorite villain had a good amount of screen time and it is about time. After reaching the end of his travels, Sylar managed to get Claire’s blood from Mohinder and escape just in time before Elle did away from him. The final scene which was the start of Volume 3 (Villains) ended with Sylar injecting himself with this blood and gaining back his previously lost abilities. At this moment It just hit me that we went through a whole chapter with a powerless Sylar. This was kind of dissapointing but Sylar is now officially back and with a title like “villains” Volume 3 looks like it will be one crazy ride.

We knew that two heroes where going to fall in this chapter but it was not easy to tell which ones it would be. I only had one person in mind and it was Elle. As a new comer in a short season I felt that her involement in the companies buisness was going to end with her death. I felt that there was no way one of our old Heroes was going to die. At least that’s what I thought until the big surprise came that Nicki and Nathan where the ones to go. I never liked Nicki’s character and thought that the show could do without her. For this reason I really don’t mind that she is gone. As far at Nathan’s death, this was a big shocker. He is by far one of the biggest characters on the show. He didn’t make as big of an impact as he did last season but he is still one of the important heroes. Even though he was assassinated their is still hope for his survival. Knowing that his blood saved Nathan before, Peter can easily have his blood injected into Nathan. We will have to wait until next year to see if it plays out this way. Other story lines included Noah making a deal with the company in order to save his family. This was my least favorite moment but I am very curious to see where this takes Noah in the future.

So volume 2 is over and we have to wait a few months for volume 3 to begin. It was a very bumpy season and Heroes took an unexpected drop. We did hear from creator Tim Kring who promised that the next Volume will not suffer from the same mistakes. Being that volume 1 was the best season of television I have ever seen, I feel confident that volume 3 will be at the same level. Also, you can’t go wrong with a title like “Villains”. The wait might be a bit long but it should be well worth it.

4 1/2 out of 5 stars
